What are claims of value?
Claims of value make a judgment–they express approval or disapproval, attempting to prove that some action, belief or condition is right or wrong, good or bad, beautiful or ugly, worthwhile or undesirable. Value claims about morality express judgments about the rightness or wrongness of conduct or belief.
What are some examples of questions of fact?
Whether “you shot” me last night is a question of fact to be tried by a jury. Whether your “shooting me” (once found to a fact) constituted murder under the statutes would be a question law. So a judge might instruct a jury to find the facts – “to find” whether or not you shot me.
What are questions of policy?
One focus of persuasive speaking is questions of policy, which advocates a change from the status quo, or the way things are today. There is a “should”, or at least an implied “should”, in the thesis statement. The speaker wants the plan proposed by the speech to become policy.
