Eligibility

American Marksman is an amateur only event. To qualify as an amateur and be able to compete in any level of American Marksman, a competitor must meet the requirements below:

To be eligible to compete, every shooter must have been 12 years of age or older at the time of registration for the local qualifier. Additionally, every person registering for a regional championship must have earned a bid by qualifying during the local qualifying phase. Qualifiers will be notified by email if he/she qualifies for the regional level.

  • To participate in a regional championship event, every person must have earned a bid by virtue of their performance in the local qualifying round. Everyone that qualifies will be notified by an email that includes information on how to register.
  • All competitors must have been at least 12 years of age at the time that he/she registered for the local qualifying round.
  • If a shooter qualified in the Junior division but turned 17 years of age before the regional event, that person will be moved up to compete in men’s or women’s open for the regional level.
  • American Marksman is an amateur only event and all shooters must comply with the amateur requirements, as set forth in the FAQ sheet and Rules document, available on the homepage.

Shooting Times/Schedules

Event dates: Friday July 15 - Sunday, July 17

Final schedules will be posted here (in printable, PDF format) no later than one week prior to the event. All competitors need to be prepared to compete on all three days, from 8am until 6pm, each day.

If you do not live within driving distance to the venue, we suggest that you make plans to arrive at your living quarters (hotel, camp ground, RV lot, etc) on the Thursday prior to the event.

In general, we will attempt to schedule each division to shoot in either the morning, afternoon or evening. This is a general rule-of-thumb however, and is subject to change.

Registration Information

You will receive an email from American Marksman notifying you that have qualified (exact date of email is TBD) for the regional level. You WILL need to re-register for the regional championship and pay the match fee. You are not automatically entered by virtue of qualifying. The email will contain instructions on how to register.

Registration Deadline: Once you receive your invitation email, you will have until 5:00 pm Mountain Time on July 1, 2016.

Match Fees

$99 per person (includes registration, firearms and match ammo)

Registration Deadline

In general, the deadline to register for the regional championship, including payment of match fee, is 2 weeks prior to the start of the event. If your registration is not complete (paid in full) by this date, your spot will be forfeited and given to the next person in line for qualification.

Courses of Fire

Each competitor will participate in 6 courses of fire that include .22, 9mm, 12 gauge shotgun and .223 caliber bolt action rifle.

All firearms and match ammo for the regional championships will be provided by American Marksman. Please do not bring your own to the range!

What Do the Winners Get?

The top finisher in each of the 4 divisions will receive an invitation to compete in the American Marksman National Championship and a chance at $50,000.

At the regional event, the top 10 finishers in each category will receive individual awards.
